Packaging
The packaging I use is usually repurposed from deliveries to me and friends, and I encourage you to continue to do the same, or recycle packaging materials if they are beyond useful life. I send deliveries via the standard UK postal service, or deliver by bike if you live within a reasonable distance.
Materials and processes
I take great care in sourcing the materials I use, which are natural fibres, or post-consumer waste for textiles. As little as possible is wasted, when there are unusable leftovers, they are composted or recycled as appropriate.
Processing of fibres and textiles is done without chemicals that will harm the environment, minimising water usage. Most of the water used goes into my garden to grow dye plants and food.
The tools I use for making the products are second-hand or rented where possible. I use Cambridge Makespace to avoid buying tools like industrial sewing machines which I use rarely. When I use consumable products I can't make, I source them carefully from suppliers who share the same ethos in their own domain. For example, I source sewing threads from James Tailoring, as I trust them to have done their research on the most sustainable products.
My electronic devices are second-hand and power efficient, and will be recycled at end of life. The electricicy I use comes from a green supplier, and I aim to use responsibly, switching off everything when not in use.
Digital footprint
I wrote this site from scratch, to use as few resources as reasonably possible for a modern e-commerce site. This applies to the server it runs on, and your phone, computer and internet bandwidth when you use it. I host the site on Cloudflare Pages, you can read their impact statement, including sustainability here. I've yet to find a very sustainable solution for the administration side of the site, which is currently hosted with Swell - if you have ideas please let me know!
Summary
I'm not perfect, there's always areas for me to improve. I continuously monitor and review my policies, and learn as much as I can to bring about lasting and effective change. If you have any feedback or ideas, please get in touch.
